This is an area where you can store any activities you’ve undertaken that you might be able to contribute towards your CPD. It’s important to note, however, that adding activities here will not automatically make them count towards your CPD – you still have to go through the normal channels to do this.

There are two places to edit your preferences – one is just next to the ‘Logout’ button in the top right corner of the page and the other is reached by clicking the ‘My Site Preferences’ tab in the middle of the homepage and then selecting the ‘Edit my interests tab’.

The best way to find what you need is to either browse or do a specific search.

To search: It’s best to do this rather than browse when you’re looking for items relating to a very specific subject area or for a particular piece of content.

There is a search box at the top of every page you visit in the site. Simply type your search term in the box and hit the arrow button to see a list of content which relates to what you want. If you wish to define your search further, click ‘Advanced search’, just underneath the main search box. This will provide a number of ways to narrow your criteria to achieve a better result.

As a general rule, the content that is most relevant to your search will appear at the top of the list, while those pieces that may have a passing mention will appear towards the bottom.

To browse: Click on ‘Browse resources’ on your homepage or in the toolbar. Here you can see a number of different links which you can click on to browse a content relating to that specific area. There’s also a ‘browse popular searches’ box on the homepage.

The next stage of our site development will be to integrate the site with the library catalogue making it much easier to search for the library items you require. Once you’ve found what you want you will be able to check out or renew books online. Check the Knowledge Services site for updates on when this further improvement will be live.

As well as a clean, fresh look, there are a number of new features to help you make the most of the resources available:

  • One set of login details – You can now use your ‘My CII’ login details to access the Knowledge Services site.
  • Streamlined navigation – find what you need more quickly and more effectively.
  • Enhanced search and browse capability – for more on this, see ‘How can I find what I need’ below.
  • My site preferences – As well as editing your personal details, you can select your preferred resource types, groups and topics. This will help to make the site more relevant to you – when you’re on the home page, you’ll be able to see the latest resources from your areas of interest and access them directly without the need for additional searches.
